Orion Pyrotechnics Code for Safety

  • Alcohol and Fireworks do not mix.

  • Use common Sense.

  • Always wait 10 minutes before approaching the fire line after a show.

  • When loading shells, keep all parts of your body from crossing over mortars.

  • Consult a senior pyrotechnician with any question. Remember the only dumb question is the question not asked.

  • Never slide shells or boxes of shells across any surface.

  • Do not wear any plastic or polyester clothing while working with or entering a live shell area.

  • Remove all lighters and matches from your pockets before working with fireworks.

  • Keep your eyes open to everything that is going on around you.

  • No smoking within 100 feet of any live shells.

  • Always shunt wires when loading shells. (Shunt is twisting squib wires together if no cap is present)

  • Do not leave razor blades lying around.

  • When hand lighting, make sure your head is below the top of the mortar.

  • Always wear head and eye protection during the show.

  • Never walk back to the ready boxes with a lit flare.

Safety in Washington

Fireworks in the state of Washington are enforced by the Office of the State Fire Marshal under the authority of Chapter 34.04 RCW and Chapter 212-17 WAC.  Orion Pyrotechnics works closely with the State Fire Marshal to ensure that all rules and regulations are met.

Orion Pyrotechnics is also proud to be a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The NFPA is a national organization that is committed to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating scientifically-based consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education. Although the standards published by NFPA have not been adopted by the state of Washington, it is important to Orion Pyrotechnics to be "connected" to the organizations that are comprised of hundreds of individuals involved in the world of pyrotechnics for Orion Pyrotechnics to stay on the cutting edge of technology.

Safety in Oregon

Fireworks in the State of Oregon are enforced by the Oregon office of State Fire Marshal under the authority of ORS  480.110 to 480.165 - The Oregon Fireworks Law.  Orion Pyrotechnics works closely with the State Fire Marshal to ensure that all rules and regulations are met.

The State of Oregon has adopted NFPA standard 1123 for the use of display fireworks and NFPA 1124 for the transportation, storage and manufacture of fireworks.
